This is Why I LOVE NYC.... Tiki Barber's Retirement Party

On Saturday night at our housewarming party, Nick and Les informed everyone that they were on the invite list to Tiki Barber's Retirement Party. Everyone was like you guys suck!! And I was soo extremely jealous - I mean come on - HE was on my fantasy football team, until I made a late in the season trade and ditched him (he wasn't getting me any points!). BUT 2 gay guys that know NOTHING about football were going to this party - sooo not fair.

So yesterday, I was talking to Les on IM and I asked when is the Tiki party? He said tonight but we are NOT going! I was LIKE WHAT????? HOW CAN YOU NOT GO??? Les said Well Nick has to work at the Home Depot tonight and he won't call out and I don't want to go alone. I said SHIT I will go with you!! So after a long day of trying to convince Les to go by himself and then trying to figure out how we could get me in - at 4:30pm - Les writes and says "Well are you coming?? Let's try to get you in! Party starts at 7:30, get your ass home and change! We are meeting at 6:00 at Nick's work"

I immediately shut down my computer, run out of work, run home - racking my brain the whole time what am I going to wear, what am I going to wear???? I get to my apartment a few minutes after 5:00, jump in the shower, do my hair and makeup and start throwing things around my room looking for an outfit (as most of you know I have a TON of clothes - so there had to be something in that room somewhere). I seriously have never gotten ready so fast in my life. I walked out of the door at 5:50 to head back downtown.

We got to the party and we were a little worried about Les getting in as Nick and me being the plus one - but we had no problems at all and got in right away.

The party was at the Capitale.
http://www.capitaleny.com/
It is a really cool place down in Chinatown that only hosts special events.
There was a ton of food and alcohol and the place was buzzing with people.
Les and I stood and watched the red carpet for awhile and Amani Toomer - wide receiver for the Giants was on the carpet while we were watching and he was on there forever and ever. We got really bored with that. But Toomer ended up about 5 feet from us after he left the carpet into the Ballroom, he's hot - the tall skinny white chic with him was not that cute though..i was surprised...

We also saw Bon Jovi and we were about 5 feet away from him while he was walking through the crowd into the VIP section. Tiki's brother was there too and as far as I know those are the only celeb sitings I made... Crap I am clueless with that stuff so I probably saw a ton more but oh well.

Tiki was up on the stage speaking a few times and the last time I was about 10 feet away from him and got some really good pics of him. I was dared by a friend to tackle him if I got that close to him and I said I would - only if he came to bail me out of jail. I didn't do it and he called me a punk....I didn't really want to get thrown in jail.

Les left around 9:45 and I stayed and chilled with some of Nick's co-workers from the advertising agency. After they left I just wandered around by myself for awhile and took it all in and then headed home...in the snow, lots and lots of snow...

The party was a lot of fun - I was expecting something a little more off the hook and some more celeb sitings but it was still an amazing experience. The crowd was full of old white men, gay men, and I would say semi-stuffy people but it was still fun. I think if some of my girls had been there with me we could have gotten our asses into the VIP section.

When we left we got autographed pics of Tiki and I scammed my way into getting 2.

See this is why I love NYC - you never know where you may end up each night or where you can find yourself. Who ever would have thought that I would have been at Tiki's retirement party last night?? Not me!! But in NYC you just never know...you just never know....

Warming the House and a big KISS

Saturday night, Jen and I had our housewarming party. We moved in mid-November and after the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season we were finally able to squeeze in our party! My room - still not done yet - getting there and looking better than what it was a few weeks ago (and apparently Carolyn and Ben are going to come over and lock themselves in there and finish it for me - wouldn't that be nice! haha)

We had such a great party - thank you everyone for coming over and for all the kind gifts! I am so glad that we could share our new home with you!! Everyone hung out - drinking, eating and talking all night - and at one point I think there were 20 people squeezed into our fabulous but semi-small Manhattan apartment. It was nice to have all of our close friends over - laughing and enjoying themselves.... except for that one moment where Steve got on the table and started stripping - hahahaha Kidding - he didn't do that, I think I would have died!

The party started at 6:30 and most people did not leave until after midnight. At this point a few of us headed a flew blocks down to a bar called Cabin Fever and there we ran into a KISS Tribute Band. Christina and I were ALL ABOUT posing for pics with them and It made a great night even better!!! Nothing like ending your night posing with KISS!!!!!!! The Gene Simmons guy came up to me and started wagging his tongue at me - "the signature move" - and me being me just stood there with my hands on my hips with a disgusted look on my face - he said "No? that doesn't do it for you?" I said "No, its disgusting!" (oh and they have a myspace page and they put a pic of Christina and I up!) http://profile.myspace.com/kissaliverocks

Thank you again everyone for everything and for being such great friends - Christina, Carolyn, Andy, Gwen (and my little fellow fighting Illini fan!), Steve, Simone, Michele, Jay, Megan, Jenn M., Nick, Les, Jacob, Ben, Carlo, Jenn L., Dave, Lydia and of course my ROOMIE - Jen!

how drunk were you?

Last night we had a C&R Happy Hour for work (now for those of you that do not know what C&R is that is another story for another day). We ventured to the Blue Bar at the Algonquin Hotel in hopes of catching a glance and a martini mixed by Mr. Wong Hoy - the oldest bartender in NYC at 90 years old. Unfortunately he was not there. A group of about 15 of us gathered at the Blue Bar for a few drinks and then deciding it was a bit pricey we headed off to another bar. Well - we ended up at the Cellar Bar - which is just as pricey but really cool and we were able to dance.

After several vodka tonics and shots of tequila...Karin was DRUNK - toasted, gone, wasted...any other word you can think of to describe it. One of my co-workers and I were the last ones to leave around midnight, we both jumped in separate cabs to make our way home (btw it is soo nice to be able to just jump in a cab and go home and not worry about an hour train ride to the bronx).

Well this is where I realize that I am DRUNK. I am watching the meter on the cab and I am digging through my purse for my $ and all i could find were about 6 one dollar bills in my coin purse. I am also flipping out because I couldn't believe I spent ALL that cash at the bar...

I knew this was NOT enough cash to get me home and I started flipping out as the meter was quickly approaching $5. So I tell the cab drive to pull over and just drop me off where ever we were.

Now see I lost my debit cards and got new ones - but one hasn't come yet and the other I don't have the pin for it yet....so there was no way for me to get cash.

I bundle myself up - flip off my stilettos, pull my flats out of my purse - and start walking. I think if I remember right I was somewhere around 60th and 3rd...I think...

It was FREEZING - after midnight - and I was DRUNK.

After walking about 5 blocks - I realized I had put all my cash in the new little Coach wallet that Maryangela gave me for Christmas... so I rummage for that and there sitting is $100. I had the stupid freaking cash the whole time. I flipped my arm up and hailed another cab and got my drunk ass home.

STUPID. DRUNK. IDIOT.

I need to stop drinking vodka OH and NOT EVER do shots of Tequila with Larry and Evan again.

Next C&R Happy hour - i refuse NO SHOTS!

OMG - just remembered another shot that was bought for me by random guys at the bar....

I think I am going to get back on the Wagon.

Orange Crush...

is what I have. A BIG HUGE CRUSH on the FIGHTING ILLINI.

They are the love of my life and always have been. They break my heart...break it...but I still love them, I love the sea of Orange - the obnoxiously orange Orange.

This weekend I flew to Illinois to take in an ILLINI game at Assembly hall with my Uncle Mark. It was Paint the Hall Orange Day and the crowd was a sea of orange.
Even though the Illini lost to #3 in the Nation Wisconsin 71-64...it was a well played game - by most of the players....or I should say by Frazier, Pruitt, Brock, and McBride. Mainly Frazier, if not for Chester that team would have no Heart and Soul.

Chester plays Like Dee - meaning he plays with that energy, aggression, heart and pure LOVE of the game. Chester alone could get the rest of the team pumped up, Chester alone could get the crowd pumped up.

Being in Assembly Hall with almost every person there dressed in Orange was an amazing feeling. The Rush of the Illini band playing the Illini song and the rush of the cheerleaders leading the I-L-L I-N-I chant.

My Uncle and I were so pumped - yelling, screaming, and jumping up and down!! Thanx Uncle Mark for taking me and giving up your Ohio State game tix to switch with your season tix partner Just for ME! Love ya!

The Chief - Chief Illiniwek - also did his infamous half-time dance - the whole crowd was silent, standing and swaying watching him do his dance - the dance that He may only do a few more times - as this is to be the last season Chief Illiniwek is allowed to dance or appear on our apparel. It is mesmerizing and you feel like you are somewhere special and part of something truly amazing.

To read about the History of the Chief click on this link. Chief Illiniwek.

The Rush of Illini Game is amazing. It was like Magic being there - like Disney World to a small child. Chills run over your body - when the team enters the court, when the crowd goes wild, when Chester Raises his arms to get the crowd pumped. It is just amazing and magical. The Spell of the Illini - casting that Orange Crush over you. Never will I have a CRUSH like this in my life. This is my one true CRUSH, my one true love.

I love my Illini and I love my BIG ORANGE CRUSH.

However....I still wish I could have seen Dee play in person while playing for the Illini. I love my Dee.

I had a Great weekend in Illinois with my family - thank you! And as my Uncle and I were saying we should have made it a trifecta - Illini game Saturday Afternoon, Bulls v. Utah Jazz (to see Deron and Dee) on Saturday Nite, and the Bears v. the Saints Sunday afternoon - too bad we weren't thinking ahead!!

oh p.s. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My torrid love affair...

with SNOW.

This morning my alarm went off around 6:30am. I though ughhh noooo I will wait until after 7 to get up, even though I had a million things to do this morning.

Then I rolled over and my window shade was slightly open and I looked out and all I saw was BIG HUGE BEAUTIFUL FLUFFY WHITE FLAKES floating magically in the street lights. I immediately sat straight up in my bed and pulled my curtain shade up and sat there mesmerized. I even called a certain someone at this time of morning to tell him that it was SNOWING and sooooo gorgeous.

What a great way to start my day off!! With big huge fluffy white flakes floating down.

I got up, showered, went out at 7am to get my laundry around the corner and I was practically skipping with glee in the big huge flakes. I had on my big gray stocking cap from Jcrew and I was giddy. Now - you all know I am NEVER giddy at 7am in the morning - especially if I am running out to pick up my laundry. I got back home, packed my bag for my weekend trip to Illinois - opened by bedroom window WIDE OPEN and watched the snow fall while I got ready.

If it wasn't for the snow I would probably still be laying in bed going no, no, no don't want to get up and go to work...

But as for my torrid love affair - I always love the first few snow falls...when it is gorgeous fluffy and white. Then I just begin to hate it - hate it everywhere, hate trudging thru it, hate the wetness of it...and then I can't wait for the promise of Spring and warm weather....

I am not there yet though...as it is the middle of January and this is the first snow fall. (which it is already done snowing and no accumulation.)

On another note...I am off to Illinois this weekend. I will be chilling in Champaign with my little cuz Aub and going to the Illini Basketball game tomorrow afternoon with my favorite Uncle Mark. I will also get to see a few other family members....I am excited, tomorrow is Paint the Hall Orange Day - in my bag I have packed on Orange Illini t-shirt, an Orange Illini Sweatshirt, an Orange Illini Jacket, and Orange Sneakers.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ILLINI!!!!!!!!

I - L - L!!! I - N - I!!!!!!!!!

OH YES - today is also my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of BLOGGING (not my one year of using blogger but of blogging in general!) HAPPY ONE YEAR BLOGGING TO ME!

if i could....

blog about my day yesterday i would.

but i can't....

talk about a miserable day. i told someone i thought i was going to meet my maker... maybe an extreme exaggeration...but wow...WOW.

and on top of that miserable day this earth lost an amazing woman yesterday - Grandma Boatright will be greatly missed. There will be a gap on this earth because her presence was so strong. She was like my 3rd grandma...used to yell at me just as much as she yelled at Kendra, Keri, or Kristin and loved me like a granddaughter too.

To One of my best Friends (Keiasha this is for you...)

Our witty banter - the way we can go back and forth and back and forth and it can never end...unless one us has to leave.

I love our friendship. I love how we can sit for hours and say nothing or sit and do the shit like I have posted below for hours...

THANK you for being you and always being there for me.

I miss you so much.

I miss you being a 5 minute drive away.

Just wanted to let you know - even though I know that you know.

This should be read from the bottom up to get the full effect.....

Do you realize that people are going to think I am crazy when they see all my comments on your page? And they are going to think you are crazy when they see all your comments on my page?

Maybe something like this should be posted:

PLEASE SEE KARIN'S PAGE for the OTHER SIDE OF THE CONVERSATION.

and then on my page:

PLEASE SEE KEIASHA'S PAGE for the OTHER SIDE OF THE CONVERSATION.

otherwise people are just going to think we like to have conversations with ourselves about 90210, Alias, STC, and uhhhh blanking uhhhhh uhhhh shit Zach Morris...damn...Saved by the Bell. (shit i am getting old)

LMAO...it was Jesse Spano. Now I'm reflecting on a time when Elizabeth Berkeley had credibility...oh wait...both she and Tori have always sucked, haven't they?

SHE WHO D..

Jan 9, 2007 10:18 PM

definitely diet pills too - see 90210 is great for that...my kids (oh shit wait again there i go - marriage and kids in one nite) anyways if i have them - OR your kids will sit down with Auntie Karin and watch 90210 to learn about life before the are released to the wolves out there....

but I think you are referencing:

Jessie Spano - "I'm so excited, I'm so exited, I'm so excited"

Keiasha

Jan 9, 2007 10:16 PM

LOL...and diet pills. Wasn't Donna cracked out on diet pills at some point? Or am I confusing her with Kelly Kapowski?

SHE WHO D..

Jan 9, 2007 10:14 PM

"if only to reflect on a time that Tori Spelling had some credibility"

I can't even point out how many things are wrong with that statement...HOWEVER - you should be watching it to learn the life lessons that 90210 teaches us about drug use, alcohol abuse, date rape, sex w/out condoms, friendships, playing with guns, marrying mob daughters, etc. etc. etc.

Seriously you can learn some good shit from that show...

Keiasha

Jan 9, 2007 10:11 PM

Damn it I might have to watch that. If only to reflect on a time when Tori Spelling actually had some credibility.

SHE WHO D..

Jan 9, 2007 10:10 PM

Soapnet plays reruns of 90210 - can't get enough. Sunday was ALL DAY. I WAS PUMPED.

Keiasha

Jan 9, 2007 10:07 PM

I can't remember how far we got, but it was probably my fault that we stopped. I don't watch 90210 after Shannen Doherty left.

I was thinking about "I Heart NY" the other day....when BIG moved to Nappa...and how we all cried like we lost our damn minds.

Yeah, all 4 of us are gay, gay, gay.

SHE WHO D..

Keiasha

Jan 9, 2007 9:52 PM

Awesome. I'm watching Wisconsin play right now.

And don't even get me started about our TV shows. Mom got me Season 5 of Alias, and that was depressing to watch too. Remember Irina and her jail capris? LOL

SHE WHO D..

Jan 9, 2007 9:52 PM

I know you're probably busy having mind-blowing sex, but I feel you need to know that your good friend, Miranda Hobbes, has just taken a piece of cake out of the garbage and eaten it. You'll probably need this information when you check me into the "Betty Crocker Clinic."
