Shakespeare in the Park

Shakespeare in the Park
Current mood: artistic
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Some of my co-workers and I have been planning to go to Shakespeare in the Park, which finally came to fruition yesterday! We went to see MacBeth at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park with Liev Schrieber staring as Macbeth.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Liev put on an AMAZING performance. HE CAN ACT!!!!! and an extra added bonus he is HOTTTT!!!!!!

Yesterday had a forecast for scattered thunderstorms, so we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best...NO RAIN!! which is almost impossible...since it seems to rain everyday here.

The day started with 2 coworkers (Carolyn and Jenn, which we were getting tickets for the 3 of us, Michele, Valerie, and another Jenn) and I meeting at 8 am in Central Park to get in line for tickets. Shakespeare in the Park is a free event and even though the box office does not open until 1pm to get the free tickets people start lining up SUPER early for these coveted tix. We were probably about the 20th group of people in line at 8am...however by box office opening time...the line was (from where i stood) a never ending winding path...

Carolyn and Jenn and I vegged out on the blanket and my portable chair with Sangria, cheese, crackers, humus, donuts, coffee, etc. etc. Carolyn napped, Jenn read, I people watched.

There are even rules for this line...it is crazy. If you leave, you have to go to the end of the line, if someone joins you, to the end of the line, if you swap out with someone, to the end of the line. You can get up and go to the bathroom. You can get food delivered to you. Each person can get 2 tix. And the workers watch the line like a hawk.

We also had entertainment while vegging out and waiting in line for the tickets. One girl in a group of people a few up from us in line, did some tap dancing and stretching. There was a flutist that Carolyn wanted to kill because he woke her up from her nap and the flute is her least favorite instrument. He kept on saying he was a starving artist, I kept saying well I am a starving attorney. I would give him some humus, but not money. All in all it was a good day hanging out in Central Park. I have some pics that I will post as soon as I get them up.

THEN we had to go to the office for 5 1/2 of work (they made me, they drug me back - only to find Ihad NO docs in my que, thereforeno work to do)- but work we did not - we farted around, made another pitcher of sangria for the play that evening. WHICH IN ITSELF WAS an INTERESTING MOMENT IN TIME!!! Long story but ended up with the cork stuck in the wine bottle and having to push a straw thru the cork to syphon it out.... i have pictures dont worry, i will post them!!! Oh what a great office memory!!

Anyways - the play was amazing, the set, Liev Schrieber's performance and many of the other actors' performances were outstanding. The nite was beautiful with a great breeze and NO RAIN, until the last few minutes of the play.....when it downpoured on them while they were taking their bows...kind of a dramtic ending to a great nite, i would say. Sometimes the rain isnt so bad, especially when it adds drama!!!

Also a great moment in time not to be forgotten - was when one of the Jenn's from work tilted her umbrella and all the water standing on top of it dumped on some lady's head and she started screaming, I thought I was going to pee my pants!!!!!!!!!

Bad things Happen in THREES, SO where is MY 3RD????

Bad things Happen in THREES, SO where is MY 3RD????
Current mood: cranky
Category: Life

Bad things in threes:

1) My car accident 2 weekends ago....which i still haven't taken the time to go get an estimate on the damage...i am scared to know...

2) Yesterday morning at 9am I called my mom's office to tell her what exciting NYC adventure I was having at the moment and her boss answered and said "she is with your dad, why don't you call your dad." I thought hmmm that is weird....so I called my dad - they were in the Emergency Room. My mom has a very bad bleeding ulcer, she has lost a lot of blood and they have had to give her blood several times. She will be in the hospital most of the week, please keep her in your prayers. They say it is a good thing they caught it when they did, because she could have bled to death. I told her she needed to stop stressing over Jayson's impending wedding...she told me I need to call her mom often because I stress her out when I never call and she thinks I am dead in the city. Fair I guess.

3) I guess I am waiting for it...what will it be.....

seems that everytime I have an exciting event the past few weeks, something bad happens to counteract the happiness....

Rain in da City

Rain in da City
Current mood: annoyed

So it is Raining, raining, raining, raining. WHY on my SATURDAY OFF???? MUST IT RAIN!! All week long it is so nice out and I spent hour after hour sitting at my desk at work. My day off - RAIN! I just want a nice brown tan...now some peope may say but Karin you have a tan...well dammit I want to be darker!!!

SO anyways, I was sitting in my apartment, looking at the boxes piled high to my ceiling in my room, that have yet to be unpacked...my clean laundry still not put away. But I am too tired from working all week to exert any engery to work on these tasks around my apartment. All plans I had made for myself (in my mind) ruined by the rain - 1) being Flea Market in Hell's Kitchen (to scavenge for some vintage finds) and 2) laying out in Central Park. So, I thought to myself why not go sit in the office and play on the internet, do some work and get paid lots of dough on this dreadful afternoon!! So that is where I am...in the office. I guess better than being in a pub drinking. (MAYBE) I also got suckered into working at the Home Depot tonite...so my rainy day will be spent working yet again. My life is work.

However, I should be floating on a boat in Iowa with my brother for his Bachelor Party. Plane tickets were just too expensive and alas I am rained bound in NYC. WHO knew I would prefer to be in Iowa this weekend, NOT ME???? My brother being funny when he gets drunks, called me OH about 10 times last nite. Same message each time (except one which had the guy I went to the senior prom yelling Hi FROM your best prom date ever) - "KARIN THIS IS YOUR BROTHER, I AM AT MY BACHELOR PARTY, PICK UP YOUR PHONE." each time that was the message, like i could hear him yelling at me, seriously...sometimes i wish i had a house phone and an answering machines for moments like that. I am sad I had my phone on silent and missed all his drunk calls...at least i got a good laugh when i woke up this morning to 7 voice mails and 10 missed calls!

Went to the Bruce Springsteen Concert on Thurs nite at Madison Square Garden with some people from work. IT SUCKED. All his new Folk music, ok I can appreaciate the music, it was good. But ALL we wanted to hear and it would have made the whole concert, was - BORN IN THE USA!!! However, I met a cute Swedish guy, Gabriel, who was sitting next to me. And we hung out afterwards, it was fun!! Swedish men are HOT!

anyways...oh i have another good office story. There was CAKE the other day for some lady's bday. And they announced that the cake was in the Kitchen (i am seeing a re-occurring theme here...) - so BLONDEY next to me AGAIN took OFF AT A DEAD SPRINT!!! FOR CAKE! I mean I LUV CAKE (more than donuts) but AGAIN SERIOUSLY!!! What is wrong with this girl that she takes off in a dead sprint????? My cubicle walls again shook, I was nervous for a moment...thought you were going to find me in a heap of cubicle and computer. Then I was like OK i want cake, because everyone else rushed for it (because she was the only one that moved very quickly towards the Kitchen). I went over to the Kitchen AND THERE WAS A LINE!!!!!!! A LINE FOR CAKE!!!! I will admit I got in line, BUT ONLY because it was the Really GOOD Carrot cake from the Bistro around the corner. ahh my office funny...sometimes..funny...

OH YES I ALMOST FORGOT - saw the best quote eva yesterday - on the inside heel of a pair of shoes no less - may have to live by this forever - "SHE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST SHOES WINS"

NIN CONCERT

NIN CONCERT
Current mood: high

Last nite my roomie and i headed out to Jones Beach out on Long Island To go see Nine Inch Nails in concert. NOW my roomie was absolutely blitzed from drinking basically straight vodka while watching the US v. Italy World Cup game when I went to pick her up at the bar. However, she was drunk enough that she was hilarious, making it okay that I was dead sober.

Nine Inch Nails - a band that I only really knew the song "Closer" and remembering when we were younger my brother bought their CD and my mom confiscated it because she would not have that KIND OF MUSIC in HER HOME!

Jenn, my roomie, has been listening to them non-stop and bought these tix to go see them in concert. So I was like sure I will go I always love a good concert and it was at Jones Beach Theatre, which is outdoors - HELLO IT IS SUMMER and ANYTHING OUTSIDE I AM UP FOR!!!

Anyways, we get out there, what we think is an hour early, so we stop at a pub, get some food, i kick back a beer and then we head to the concert. We get there easily enough and we have VIP parking - which the little parking lot director guy was trying to be all cute and said he would tell us where we needed to go, if he could have the driver - ME - i looked at him and said "SERIOUSLY TELL US WHERE WE NEED TO GO BECAUSE SHE WILL SELL ME TO YOU IF SHE MISSES TRENT BECAUSE OF YOU!!!" so off we zoomed in the right direction. we park and get out and what do we hear but NIN playing already and playing Jenn's favorite song ONLY. we sprinted across the parking lot (which was far because we parked right by the exit so we could get out easy at the end). We got inside and near our seats to hear the end of ONLY. The rest of the concert was amazing - it was a gorgeous nite, Trent Reznor looked hot as hell, the music was amazing. We jammed out sooo hard. IT WAS AMAZING. NIN played for an hour and half, but we felt like we were there for seriously 20 minutes. Jones Beach Theatre is a great venue...and NIN RULED last nite.

here is a pic from the concert last nite:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The two of us were amazed and on a natural high. We jammed out with our windows down listening to NIN on the way home....UNTIL....buzz kill...i rear-ended some chic. We were all fine, her car was fine, my poor little SIGGIE is crunched up a little bit in the Hood area. Poor car....nothing i could do...she slammed on her breaks in the middle of the Long Island Expressway and I slammed mine on too and skidded right into her...I knew as soon as she put her breaks on I was going to hit her...oh well, huh c'est la vie. Kinda killed our moods...but didnt RUIN THE KICK ASS CONCERT WE SAW.
THANX JENN FOR TAKING ME. LOVE YA, MUAH!!!

and today, i got to lay in central park all afternoon and get some sun, i love summer...love it. mmmm...however i am stuck at work for the evening. ughh.

MAD RUSH FOR DONUTS in the Office...ridiculous

MAD RUSH FOR DONUTS in the Office...ridiculous
Current mood: amused

so just about 20 minutes ago, they made an announcement that there were DONUTS in the kitchen AND seriously, I am DEAD SERIOUS when I say this... at least 10 people jumped up from their desks and SPRINTED into the Kitchen. DEAD SPRINT into the KITCHEN for a donut!!! I mean I like a good donut now and then, but to RUN for them - because OH CRAP they might run out!!!

I thought there was going to be a stampede and that all of the cubicles were going to collapse. My cubicle walls definitely teetered for a bit...

then it seems that donuts coming into the office, means that it is time for everyone to stand around those of us that did not peel our asses off our seats to eat those fattening round delicious pieces of dough and wave their donuts around in our faces while talking very loudly and have social time.

there is a reason those select few of us did not run for donuts...we are trying to not become fatties while we sit at our desks for 10 hours a day...seriously!!

Eventually I got up and meandered into the Kitchen. Hoping that my craving for the donuts would be beat by them being all eaten by the previous stampede of co-workers. However, there were still BOXES and BOXES of Dunkin Donuts - which in turn disgusted me and I turned right back out and walked back to my desk. NO donut for ME!!

I can't believe that my co-workers created a stampede to get to the donuts, when there are like 10,000 left...

fatties.

Miserable in the City

Miserable in the City
Current mood: grumpy

Why I don't know, really...I have no clue. It really has nothing to do with anything or the City. I think I am coming down off the high I was on for the last week and a half celebrating my birthday. And as my t-shirt I am wearing today says - "I need a Vacation" OR lots of alcohol whatever works. ANYONE WANT TO DRINK WITH ME TONITE????

also for the most part my weekend in Massachusetts was miserable - except seeing my friends on Saturday nite and the people at the HD up there. I mean it was nice to see my parents, because I hadnt seen them since Christmas. But for some reason they were up my butt about this or that. My brother seemed miserable too...in a bad mood. Except when he was drinking - hahaha and I am the one with the drinking problem, riiiiighhhhtt???? Damn impending wedding. I think it has everyone going crazy. All I know, the whole time I was there, I didnt want to be there. I just wanted to get back to the City as soon as possible.

However, my daddy (and my mom too) gave my a beautiful diamond knecklace for my bday - to go with the diamond tennis bracelet they gave me last bday. And of course starbucks and dunkin donuts giftcards to support my other drinking habit - Coffee.

anyways after doing some work and getting a phone call from a friend, i feel a little better...some friends are good for lifting your spirits and sometimes a friend's horrible weekend makes you laugh and makes you weekend look not quite so bad. thanks for the story buddy. here's to crazy biatches!!! you made my whole day with that story!! i will be laughing my ass off for days about that one. love ya babe!

anyways...as for my miserable blog...i am done with it. back to lovin my life, hahaha

Workin my Ass off in the City

Workin my Ass off in the City
Current mood: crazy

So I haven't blogged in awhile, so this one might be long. I have been working so much, it has been crazy, I think the only time I am home is to sleep at nite. OH well...I can't complain too much, life is good and I still have some time to have fun (I mean come on, how could I live without a little bit of fun!!)

Let's see my last Blog was....on May 23rd...that was awhile ago. I will start with DANCE LESSONS! This past Sunday little George taught us how to Cha Cha Cha. And IF I MUST say so myself, I was pretty good. By far the one I am the best at out of the three we have learned. I could Cha Cha Cha all day long. WOO HOO!! I also got to partner up with George, since we were minus 1 in our lessons (Talia was off Pearl Jamming it).

After Dance Lessons, us ladies headed off to Little Italy, for some dinner, drinks, and site seeing (meaning it was FLEET WEEK and we wanted to check out some men in uniform - ahhhhhhh good times). It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside, had sangrias and checked out hot men. NOW that is what i call a PERFECT nite!!! It being Memorial day the next day, Jenn and I decided to extend our drinking back to the pubs by our house. I admit I was gone, I mean gone. LOADED! One of those nites that I kept my sunglasses on, and I thought every man was latino that had dark hair (mind you we live in a completely Irish neighborhood). Oh WELL, met myself a Brit, so that was fun! And Taco Bell cured all the next day! Thank God, for Taco Bell!!!

PAMMY also visited that weekend. She got in Friday nite. She was supposed to get in at 10:45 which wasn't too bad. I was just hanging out with Quentin after work at the Depot having a few drinks. However, her train was super duper delayed and she didnt get in until after 1:00AM. Therefore, Quentin and I were absolutely hammered by the time she got in. Quentin being the gentleman that he is, went with me to Penn Station with me to get her and rode home with us on the Subway. We didnt get back to my place until close to 3AM. The bad thing about that WAS I was supposed to be at the depot at 6:30am which meant I had to get up at 4:30AM - UMMM NOT! I was bad, I was a no call no show! Oh well. Counting the days until I quit there anyways....maybe I should put one of those count down things on my page. Saturday day Pammy and I walked through Central Park - where I found my NEW FAVORITE Association - the Central Park Dance Skating Association - man these peeps could really shake their things on their rollerskates/blades. We also strolled through Times Square (again more checking out of men in UNIFORM). Sunday we spent the day at the Bronx Zoo before she headed back to Massachusetts. (check out my new pic from the Zoo!)

Lets see what else - oh random SUBWAY sketchiness - --> Old Man across from me spreads his legs - big rip in crotch - saw tighty whities and balls hanging out of tighty whities - NASTY!! -->Yesterday, white guy sitting next to Dominican Guy who had headphones on, White guy told Dominican guy to turn his music down because he could hear it and it was disturbing him while he was reading his magazine. When white boy got off train he walked like he had pole stuck up his ass. I would have jacked him if he was that rude to me.

WORK is going well - I have made friends here, we chat on IM together all day, talking about everyone else in the office, we go for drinks together - makes life a little bit easier and the day go by faster. However, today is going to be sooo slow, because all of them are out of the office today.... There are some other girls that are pretty cool too. I am working on a deposition project which is so much better than basic doc review.

BBQ this weekend for our house warming and my bday - it is supposed to RAIN!

MY BDAY is a WEEK FROM TODAY!!! and I am NOT turning 28, I am turning 26 - rollin back the clock. yep yep!! we are celebrating this saturday and next wednesday and probably every other day too - i like to stretch my bday celebrations out!! why not???

My actual bday will be spent working 10 joyous hours and then home to hop in my car and make a 3 hour trek to Massachusetts. My mom and dad will be there from Iowa, for a fun-filled weekend of bridal showers, dress fittings, working on my brother's house, and bachelorette parties - ALL in preparation of my brother's impending wedding in July. I hate that my bday weekend is going to be ALL ABOUT SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME!!!! Sorry I am selfish!

Oh yea - my FINGER is healing nicely, except that I dont have alot of feeling in the area around the cut and it doesnt bend so well...but SEE i didnt need to go to the hospital - i took good care of it all by myself

Well, I should get back to work...I guess. If I think of anything else, I will drop ya another blog!!!! lata
