Salsa in the City

Salsa in the City
Current mood: artistic

Today was our first day of dance lessons! Every Sunday for the next 10 weeks we (me, Jenn, Leslie, Talia, Kristen and Valerie) will be shakin our TAIL feathers down at Dance Studio 101 (www.dancestudio101.com) at our own private lessons with George - the asian latin dance instructor.

Today we learned the basic Salsa steps - the front and back, the side to side, and the turn...we also learned how to shake those hips in a figure 8 and how to dance with a partner or alone!!! OHHH were we a dancin and a shakin..woo hoo.

Then George had us start with some basics steps for the Merengue - POP those hips - step step sep pop, And our homework..to practice movin our HIPS!!! hmmm...wonder how i can do that.....heheheehe

Next week we are brushing up on these and learning the CHA CHA CHA!!!!! So much fun we had today!!!

Can't wait until next Sunday!!!

we can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends dont dance
And if they dont dance
Well they're no friends of mine
Say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Because you're one far behind
We can dance
We can go where we want to
The night is young and so am i
And we can dress real neat
From out hats to our fee
Then surprise them with a big trick ride
Say, we can act if we want to
If we dont, nobody will
And you can act real rude
And totally removed
And i can act like an imbusil
Say, we can dance
We can dance
Everything's outta control
We can dance
We can dance
We're doing it more and more
We can dance
We can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance
We can dance
Everybody's taking the cha-nce
It's safe to dance
Oh well, it's safe to dance
Yes, it's safe to dance
We can dance if we want to
We've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it
Never gonna lose it
Everything will work out right
I say, we can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Because your friends dont dance
And if they dont dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say, we can dance
We can dance
Everything's outta control
We can dance
We can dance
We're doing it more and more
We can dance
We can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance
We can dance
Everybody's taking the cha-ance
Well, it's safe to dance
Yes, it's safe to dance
Well, it's safe to dance
Oh well, it's safe to dance
Ah yes, it's safe to dance
Well, it's safe to dance
It's safe to dance
It's safe to dance

Trauma in the City

Trauma in the City
Current mood: ditzy

so you think your first injury in the city might be significant, you think NYC you think maybe a mugging or a robbery, or something of that sort...OH NO NOT ME!!! ME...i cut my finger to the bone while sitting at home trying to cut some cheese.

however it was 9:00pm and i didnt want to spend the whole nite in the emergency room for a few stitches. so my roomie, Jenn and I bundle up my profusely bleeding finger. And one of my co-workers, who is also an EMT was on IM, she told me what to do and I was all good to go. OR so i thought. Woke up this morning and the bleeding ahd stopped was feeling good and I get to work and my EMT co-worker, takes a look and I am off and bleeding again all over. She said it was definitely deep enough and i should have gotten stitches. she put butterfly bandages on it, but man does it hurt and it is still gushing away. I told them all that dont mind me if i am an airhead today, it is all the blood loss. gotta have some donuts to keep my blood sugar up...hehe. NOT.

anyways...at least i have this cool bandaid from the netherlands holding the gauze on...it ha duckies on it. i should take a picture for you all...but i wont.

so anyways - my first trauma in the City..should have gone to the hospital, i guess...so everyone keeps telling me. BUT OH WELL!!!! Now i will have one more cool scar...

lesson learned for EMT: DO NOT LET BLONDE LAWYER USE SHARP KNIFE TO CUT CHEESE.

i always knew i should stay away from the kitchen and cooking...

life...its full of cuts and bruises.

The Weekend in the City with My Girls

The Weekend in the City with My Girls
Current mood: touched

Well, Mary, Linda, Kiki and I had this weekend planned since way back in January. We planned a girls weekend to NYC. Kiki coming from North Carolina, Mary and Linda from upstate and I was supposed to be coming from Mass. But since I moved to NYC, what almost 2 months ago now - I was already here. It didnt ruin our weekend though.

We all met at the Mariott on Lex Ave around 4:30 Friday afternoon - with a bottle of champagne waiting to toast our weekend off. Hugs, stories, drinks, quickly got our renunion started. We all realized quickly that Mary and I hadnt seen Keiasha since a year ago February - my how time flies when you have to grow up and graduate from law school!

We went down the street to get a slice, so we wouldnt get too drunk with empty stomachs - hahahahaha - oh too drunk! NOT! Beer with dinner, vodka and cran while getting ready, shots sof tequila - OH did I tell you that we were going to a Broadway show!!!!!!! We went to see 3 Days of Rain - with Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper (oh so hot), and Paul Rudd (my new boyfriend - hehe). We got all dressed up and headed out. Of Course we were all feeling a little bit tipsy and we started our picture taking early - i think last number I saw we took like 150 pics this weekend.

Once they opened the doors to the show - GUESS where we headed??? The bar - more beer - and oh yeah - for Mary and I - shots of Gin out of the pretty blue bottle - Ben the Bartender filled those to the rim and then refilled them! He also informed us that we could prepay for drinks and they would be ready for us and set aside at Intermission - OH, WELL - You DO NOT TELL THIS TO MARY AND KARIN - OH NO!!! So the two of us ordered up our Intermission shots of Gin - SMART IDEA - really smart - NOT! The Show was ok - Bradley and Paul were HOTTTT! Intermission came, we had our shots and the BEST part, Mary and I slept in our seats/passed out the whole second half of the show - yup, freakin classy baby! definitely - and oh yeah I threw up at the end of the show. Good STUFF!!

Anyways - up and at 'em the show was over and We found ourselves in a throng of people waiting for the "stars" to come on. I dont remember Julia coming out at all. But as soon as Bradley Cooper and Paul Rudd came out - BAM - I was awake!! Mary somehow got by the barricade, got up close shots of Bradley for Kiki (because she loves him) and his autograph. So, me being me, I had to be up there too!! So, i "pushed" my way through the crowd and got up there too. Paul Rudd talked to me and I have two great shots where he was posing for me and looking right at me!!! My new boyfriend...ahhhh......WOW that was fun! Check out my pics on my page in the slide show!

Anyways we headed back to the hotel - too drunk to be going anywhere but there!! All I remember after that was Keiasha and I laying in bed screaming - its Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Where you at, where you at. And talking about Family Guy for at least an hour, and Maybe a few Napoleon quotes were thrown in too....Good thing Mary passed out and slept through it all and SORRY LINDA for keeping you up! I also BLAME the three of them for any drunken phone calls I made, they were supposed to have kept my phone away from me!! hahahaha, I am sneaky.

Saturday we all woke up and miracuously with NO hangover. We packed up and headed out to my place in the BX. Lunch at the diner around the corner and then back to my house for more drinking - We sat on the front stoop for hours, hanging out, telling stories and just catching up. Jenn my roomie hung all day, as did Jimmie, Eddie, and our neighbor Pete! Vero and Tina also came by to hang. Ended the perfect day, with 6 (Me, Mary, Linda, Kiki, Jenn, and Jimmie) of us laying in my bed talking crap. I love me girls and I miss you all!! It was such a great weekend, almost perfect! Even pizza at midnite in bed! Sweet!

BEST WEEKEND BY FAR! and of course here in this BLOG, will I never ever disclose EVERYTHING that went on! hahahaha - somethings just stay between the 4 of us!!

It was so sad to drop Kiki off at LaGuardia and then I dropped Linda and Mary off at Metro-North. I can't believe how much our lives have changed over the past almost 2 years - However, None of us HAVE changed- when we are together, we are just us! Nothing ever changes - YOU THREE I LOVE YOU - YOU ARE MY SOULMATES! I don't need anyone else!

Can't wait for our October Trip to NC!!!!!!!!! But, I hope it is not that long until we all our together again.

I miss our times together Ladies, and I am so sad that all we have a few weekends here and there. I love you.

Karin In the City .7

In the City .7
Current mood: bored

So now i have been here over a month. Been working at my new job for almost 2 weeks.Cutting back hours at the Depot. However, right now between the 2 jobs i am working about 60-65 hours a week. could be worse, i guess.

however, i still am working on unpacking..i had a nice dent in everything, but havent touched it since i started working....it will happen soon. i suppose.

Had a great Cinco de mayo!! Kissed the Statue of the Bull on Wall Street - got a pic! It will be posted soon, oh dont you worry!!! Been having way too much fun. Spent saturday afternoon with Valerie just hanging out in Central Park and catchin some rays, then we had a nice dinner at a little cafe on the sidewalk. (buzz kill was I had to go to work at the Depot that nite) - wasnt ALL bad though...dont mind seeing some people that work there.

my roomie is in the Dominican Republic this week, a little lonely without her. No one to go grab a Magners with at the pub around the corner. AND i HATE that she is laying on the beach while i am stuck in an office with no windows...oh well...c'est la vie!

As I always say...I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW! My life is good. God has blessed me with good fortune, good friends and GOOD FAMILY!

this weekend my girls from lawschool are coming to NYC for our girls weekend. I am so excited to see Mary, Linda, and Kiki!! Friday nite we are going to a broadway show and then out on the town and then saturday we are heading back to my pad in the BX, to BBQ, drink and meet IRISH MEN (Right Kiki??).

gotta go back to do some more work....grrrrrr...here until 6 and then off to the Depot....can't wait to quit there at the end of July!!!

KARIN'S WORLD

KARIN'S WORLD
Current mood: contemplative

Lets see about me...hmmm...well, I am a lawyer. Trust me, I am not all stuffy and boring...I am the complete opposite, I am actually still a kid at heart and I love to have fun and joke.

I am totally scared of heights, but I always find myself trying to conquer that fear and ending up in situations that completely scare the crap out of me!!

I love to be around my four best girl friends (Mary, Kiki, Linda and Kendra), but right now they all live pretty far away. We always know how to have a good time..no matter the scenario! Friends are extremely important to me.

I am very family oriented and I try to see my family members as much as possible, even though they are all far away too (mom and dad are back in the midwest where i grew up).

I am pretty athletic and I love to play basketball, tennis, and i like to swim. I am a complete warm weather girl and I love anything that has to do with the ocean, beach, and sun. I also like to watch baseball, college basketball (GO FIGHTING ILLINI), and no sorry not football, but i will suffer through the game...as long as i can have a drink or two.

I also love to travel. I spent a summer studying in Greece and I recently spent 7 months living in Europe and I traveled all over...from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands (where I lived and worked). I moved back to Massachusetts last June after living in California for five months.

I am licensed to practice law in NY and CT. I recently moved to NYC and livin in the Bronx - working Part time at the Manhattan 59th street Home Depot And doing some temp legal work full time. Lovin life! Missin my peeps back in Massachusetts though.
